A MASS Rapid Transit commuter, who wants to be identified only as Sas, claims that he was cheated when he attempted to top up his MyRapid card recently.

He said he was charged a RM0.50 fee when he reloaded the card at an MRT customer service counter.

“I was not aware that a service charge was imposed when I topped up my card at the counter.

“I felt deceived as I did not get the full amount that I paid for.

“The hidden charges should not apply and if there are charges, it should be clearly stated or made public. 

“I understand that some operators charge a fee for reloading Touch ‘n Go cards, but why is MyRapid charging its customers when it had implemented the cashless system?”

He urged Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to explain the situation.

A Prasarana Malaysia Bhd spokesman yesterday said there was a RM0.50 fee when reloading MyRapid cards at MRT stations. 

“It is similar to reloading at 7-Eleven outlets and petrol stations.”

He said notices on the extra fee had been put up at all MRT customer service counters. 

He said commuters could top-up their Touch ‘n Go cards with no extra fee at the self-reload kiosks.

“The RM0.50  fee is waived when commuters reload at self-reload kiosks at selected stations.”

He said customers could also reload their cards at any MPH Bookstore, Giant Supermarket, Tesco, Guardian, Caring Pharmacy or Watsons, free of charge.
