KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia Sdn Bhd (VPCM), the official distributor of Volkswagen vehicles in the country, has launched its all-new Volkswagen Tiguan with a starting price of RM148,990, excluding insurance.

The first-generation Tiguan was introduced in 2007 and it has sold 2.8 million in 170 markets globally. As the sports utility vehicle (SUV) market is growing, we are confident that the all-new Tiguan will also be well-received by the Malaysian market,“ said managing director Erik Winter at the launch.

The all-new Tiguan is assembled at Volkswagen assembly facility in Pekan. It comes in two variants, the Comfortline and Highline. Both variants are powered by a 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged direct and multiport injection engine hooked on a six-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox.

The engine is capable of producing 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque between 1,500 to 3,500 rpm. The new Tiguan is recognised as an energy-efficient vehicle with a fuel efficiency of 6.7 litres per 100km.

It has a boot space of 615 litres with all seats up. The rear seats are split 40:20:40, it can be expanded to 1,655 litres with the rear seats fully folded. Both variants come with aircraft-style fold-up trays with cupholders, which are mounted on the back of the front seat, an eight-inch discover media infotainment system, cooled glove compartment, paddle shift, auto lights and auto wipers.

Six airbags, driver alert system (rest assist), electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system, multi-collision brakes and Isofix are some of the core safety features available in both the variants.

The Comfortline variant comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric interior, black roof rails, light-emitting diode (LED) tail lamps and park distance control. It is priced at RM148,990 without insurance.

The Highline variant comes with 18-inch wheels, 12.3-inch active info display, eight-inch discover media infotainment system, three-zone Climatatronic, full LED headlamps with day running lights, Park Assist 3.0, electronically adjusted driver seats, cruise control, leather seats, keyless entry with push-to-start button, ambient lighting, a navigation system, rear view camera and an electric tailgate. It is priced at RM168,990 without insurance.

Currently, Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia is having an early bird discount of RM7,000. App Connect is optional upgrade for the Highline. With Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, the software allows for smartphone app connection to the car‘s infotainment system, and it is available at an introductory price of RM699 for a limited time (normal price RM1,099).

There are five colours to choose from - Pure White, Deep Black, Atlantic Blue, Tungsten Silver and Indium Grey. The all-new Tiguan comes with five years of factory warranty and five years of free roadside assistance. It also comes with a 15,000km service interval.
