KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning actress Maya Karin is unperturbed of being compared to Farahdhiya even though the two actresses will be portraying the same role of Tun Fatimah in two separate theatre productions.
Apparently, the Malay-German artiste only got wind of the fact after attending rehearsal sessions for Teater Tun Fatimah not long ago.
“It was during rehearsals for Tun Fatimah that I got to know that Farahdhiya would also be playing the same role in another theatre production called Teater Bahara Emas.”
"Worried or not, I really have no choice on the matter. I can only give it my best with regards to portraying the Malaysian heroine role,” she said in a recent news report.
It’s an interesting coincidence that the two theatre shows will happen at roughly the same time.
Teater Tun Fatimah will be staged on Oct 20 and 21 at Panggung Bangsawan Melaka, while Teater Bahara Emas will run from Oct 19 to 22 at Auditorium Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Kuala Lumpur.
Further commenting on the production, Maya said that she was feeling quite nervous since this would mark her first time performing silat onstage, which she considered a big challenge.
A much easier aspect of the theatre show though was performing alongside actor Remy Ishak.
“This would be the fourth time we’re working together. Prior to this, we had both acted in two films and one theatrical production together.”
"Remy’s actually a funny, easygoing and cool guy, so it’s really a joy to work with him,” she said.
On a different note, Maya, who is also a singer, revealed that she already has plans for a new music project.
She’ll be recording a brand new pop ballad composed by Awi Rafael in the near future.
