THEY say never judge a book by its cover. But when it comes to actors, one should never judge who they are as a person based on the roles they play on screen.
Unfortunately that was what happened to actress Sharifah Sakinah, who was labelled a bimbo, thanks to her portrayal as a floozy character named Lydia in the drama comedy series Girlfriend Aku Dari Neraka.
Couple that with her vibrant and outspoken off-camera personality, people were even more convinced that the real Sharifah was a replica of Lydia.
But the 28-year-old begs to differ and said she was merely doing the best she could as an actress to successfully deliver her character, as instructed by director Dira Abu Zahar.
“Don’t call me a bimbo because that gets me irritated when someone does,” she said recently.
“I’m not in the entertainment industry only to be labelled as one. Perhaps, I should not take up roles such as this in the future any more,” said Sharifah, who is on the set for a new drama for TV3, titled Suamiku Mat Piun, which also stars Mark Adam and Along Raja Lawak.
Despite this, Sharifah said, she enjoyed such roles as they were comical and fun.
