KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei's brother Datuk Joe Lee said his family is fully behind him in his fight to clear his name.

Joe, the executive producer of Chong Wei's biopic Rise Of The Legend confirmed that the national shuttler had made a police report at Bukit Aman on Feb 14 against individuals who uploaded an obscene video online and claimed it featured him.

“Chong Wei immediately informed police about it, because it's a clear attempt to slander him.

“Our family and friends are fully behind Chong Wei and we want to thank all fans for their love and support," said Joe at the screening of Rise Of The Legend in the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil last night.

He reiterated that the man in the three-minute and 12-second video with an unknown woman was not Chong Wei.

Joe agreed with the film's producer Josiah Chieng that viewers were more discerning, educated and mature and would not simply believe wild rumours, especially those coming at the eleventh hour to soil one's reputation.

Chieng had said on Feb 19 he was confident Chong Wei's report would boost fans’ admiration of him.

Meanwhile, the world premiere of the movie showed the special 133-minute director’s cut – the official cinema release only runs for 110 minutes.

The biographical film on Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s life was screened on a specially-built 40m x 17m giant LED screen.

Singers Nabila Razali and Priscilla Abby performed the official theme song, Cahaya Juara.

Last night’s world premiere attended by more than 20,000 people also made entries into the Malaysia and Asia Book of Records for the largest movie premiere.

Guest of honour was Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and he was accompanied by Badminton Association of Malaysia president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria.

Others present were Chong Wei, Joe, Chieng, co-producers Ben Lee and Tony Hu, director Teng Bee and the main cast.
