KUALA LUMPUR: Even fit and active individuals should undergo regular health checks to detect any risk of harmful diseases, according to National Heart Institute (IJN) Corporate Communications senior manager Aina Jamil.
She said the health screenings could help them make changes to their lifestyle and dietary habits as a precautionary measure to avoid chronic diseases such heart and kidney disease.
“Active individuals such as sports athletes need to undergo regular health checks and fitness tests in preparation for any game or sports events.
“While athletes are usually more fit than the rest of us, some of them may still have underlying heart issues or other conditions that can otherwise go unnoticed. These are those who are at risk of serious injury or complications if they exert themselves too much,” she said when met by reporters during the health screening session for actors of the ‘OlaBola The Musical’ play here, today.
Aina said actors were briefed on proper healthcare and had their blood pressure, blood sugar and X-Ray tests done.
She said the health screening package was held to provide exposure and encourage the public including active individuals such as athletes and actors to have any underlying conditions detected early to avoid chronic illnesses.
Meanwhile, ‘OlaBola The Musical’ actor Iedil Putra, 34, said every individual should have a health check-up done on a yearly basis.
“This health check-up is very important because we are often exposed to various factors that contribute to health problems such as dirty environments, unhealthy lifestyle and bad eating habits.
“Men also need to realise that they are vulnerable to various harmful diseases, so this health screening can educate us to change our lifestyle and daily eating habits,” he said. - Bernama
