KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (MOCM) and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) are upgrading the country’s broadband internet infrastructure gradually.
"The upgrading of infrastructure began last month, and is expected to be completed by year end. TM always informs their customers of the status of the upgrading work.
"Feedback shows (customers) welcome faster broadband speed, but the packages remain at the same price," said the MOCM in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat here today.
The MOCM was replying to a question from Chua Tian Chang (PKR-Batu) on the government’s action to upgrade internet speed in the country, as mentioned in Budget 2017.
The government announced that from Jan this year, fixed line broadband internet will be upgraded, but the packages will remain at the same price.
The next two years will also see the upgrading of data packages to twice the current speed, but at a reduced price of up to 50 per cent. -- BERNAMA
