MALACCA: A policewoman with the rank of sergeant has been remanded for three days for allegedly abusing her power and releasing a man who was arrested for possessing ketum juice.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Analia Kamaruddin beginning today until Sunday.

The policewoman, aged 27, is attached to the Alor Gajah district police headquarters.

She was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer at 5pm on Thursday during the ‘Op Perangkap’ set by the commission at a restaurant in Alor Gajah.

She appeared at the magistrate’s court here at noon and was represented by counsel, James Thanjong Tuan.

The woman would be investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly receiving a bribe of RM6,000 from a 31-year-old man to release his brother.
