GEORGE TOWN: Former DAP member Hew Kuan Yew was arrested by police here earlier today.

Source confirmed that he was arrested and brought to the state northeast district police headquarters.

However, the reason for his arrest remains unknown.

Hew, known as 'Superman', had previously courted controversy over his commments, some of which were deemed racially-charged.

Members of the media had gathered outside the district police headquarters since afternoon.

Lawyer RSN Rayer was seen entering the premises at about 3.15pm, believed to be appearing for Hew.

He did it reply to calls and messages sent to him to enquire about his presence.

District deputy police chief Superintendent Ab Rahman Ahmad could not be reached for comment at this moment.
