LANGKAWI: The Sukhoi Technical Centre has been awarded the Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) by the Directorate General Technical Airworthiness (DGTA).

Based at the Gong Kedak Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Terengganu, the centre, run by Aerospace Technology Systems Corp Sdn Bhd, serves as a second-line maintenance unit for all of RMAF's Russian-made Su-30MKM aircrafts in its fleet.

According to a statement today, the award came after STC passed an audit carried out by the directorate, which is in charge of supervising the airworthiness of all government-owned aircraft.

"STC was set up in 2011 as a centre to maintain, repair and overhaul RMAF's Su-30MKM aircrafts.

"Based in Gong Kedak air base, the centre provides high-technology equipment and tools to maintain Su-30MKMs, including technical treatments and engineering solutions by certified and highly-experienced professionals.

“The AMO will be presented to the ATSC by DGTA director-general Brigadier General Datuk Dr Md Zaki Md Zain in an official ceremony during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) Exhibition tomorrow," said the statement.
