GEORGE TOWN: A tourist from Thail¬and was stabbed by a local man in his hotel room here last night.

The 28-year-old victim, Teerasak Prommachun, is said to have contacted the man for his sexual services via the WeChat application.

It is understood that both men initially agreed on the fee, but upon meeting at his hotel room at about 11.30pm, Teerasak tried to negotiate a lower price.

The negotiation turned ugly when a scuffle broke out and the local man wielded a knife and stabbed the left side of the victim's stomach, before escaping from the scene seconds later.

"We have retrieved closed-circuit television fo¬otage from the hotel, and are tracking (the man) down," Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said in a statement to¬day.

Apart from the stab wound, the victim al¬so sustained minor injuries on his neck, face and hands.

The case is being in¬vestigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntari¬ly causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means.
