KLUANG: A 24-year-old man, who was allegedly having an affair with a married woman, was badly injured after being ambushed by seven people, believed to be his in-laws.
The man, who took his married mistress out on a supper date with his father and her toddler in tow, was badly beaten up by six men and a woman.
He was in the midst of having a meal at Jalan Berangan on Tuesday, when he was ambushed.
He suffered various injuries - a torn scalp, fractured left elbow and bruised right eye as a result.
It is believed that his in-laws had ganged up on him and attacked him with a baton.
Kluang district police chief ACP Mohamad Laham said that the victim’s 54-year-old father and the woman’s toddler were also injured in the ruckus.
“The in-laws of the victim were apparently enraged when they found out that he was having an affair with the woman, who is believed to be married and in the process of getting a divorce,”.
“Early investigations have revealed that the victim, who was eating with his mistress, her child and his father were suddenly cornered by the seven people aged between of 16 and 53, before they proceeded to beat the victim and his father.”
“In the ruckus the one-year-old child of the woman was also scratched on the nose,” he said when contacted yesterday.
The victim was also understood to have driven the woman and the toddler to the Hospital Enche Besar Hajah Kalsom while leaving his father at the scene.
Mohamad said that police conducted a raid at the hospital and at Taman Melodi here, and arrested the seven people involved on Tuesday itself, immediately after receiving a report from the victim’s father.
He said that one of those detained had a criminal record while police also seized a wooden baton from a car belonging to one of the attackers.
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing hurt. It provides for a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a fine if convicted.
The seven have been remanded from yesterday.
