PUTRAJAYA: It will take another six months for the government to re-organise its agencies and departments and resolve overlapping duties.

Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar said his office was in the midst of reviewing the agencies and departments for them to be placed under relevant ministries.

“For agencies and departments with overlapping of duties, we are already in the second stage (of the re-organising process).

“In the six months, we will see which agencies would be closed after making the necessary adjustments,” he told reporters during an Up-and-Close session with the Chief Secretary here today.

Although Ismail did not deny the possibility of closing down some agencies, he declined to disclose the affected ones.

“The new government is taking into consideration all aspects of things,” he said, adding the new government would continue with efforts to clean up the public services sector from corrupt practices.

He said the move was initiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in order to serve the people better.

“This new direction by the government will ensure that civil servants can resolve legacy issues,” he added.
