KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for shortening the distance between her parents.
She was responding to Najib’s earlier tweet which said “Starting tomorrow, the journey to visit friends in Sungai Buloh from Kajang will be easier and comfortable!”
Although Najib did not mention any names and it was unclear if the prime minister was taking a jibe at jailed opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, social media users however were quick to drew a link on the topic.
Anwar is currently serving his five-year sentence at the Sungai Buloh prison while Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president, is the assemblyperson for Kajang.
“Thank you @NajibRazak for shortening the trip from Sungai Buloh @anwaribrahim to Kajang @drwanazizah,” Izzah wrote.
Previously, the prime minister had also poked fun at the opposition when he described the opening of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) MRT line as the "real Kajang Move" on his Facebook page.
Najib wrote: "The Real Kajang Move. Coming to you in seven days. #JomNaikMRT.”
The "Kajang Move", also known as Selangor’s political crisis was a political strategy employed by PKR in 2014.
The manoeuvre sought to topple the former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, and install Anwar as his replacement.
The failed move was initiated by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
The attempt resulted in a nine-month political crisis within Selangor and the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, which also involved the Selangor Palace.
The crisis concluded with the appointment of PKR's deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the 15th Selangor MB.
