KUALA LUMPUR: Those who are engaging in active lifestyle and sports are encouraged to undergo a health screening session before further participating in their favourite activities.
The National Heart Institute (IJN) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub explained that while athletes were generally in better shape than ordinary people, they still need regular check-ups to rule out any underlying issues.
"As health professionals, we at IJN would like like to raise the awareness of society on the importance of health screenings in reducing the possibility of dangerous health risks while performing sports.
"This is especially so for those who are middle-aged with risk factors, whether they smoke or have family-history of heart disease.
"Through regular heart screenings, we not only can monitor any abnormal changes in one's body, but also see if any previous injuries are healing as they should," he said.
IJN today announced its collaboration with Forca-Amskins Racing UCI Continental Cycling team by offering its healthcare services to the professional cyclists.
Under the two-year collaboration, the Forca-Amskins team will enjoy free annual health screenings and benefit from IJN's high quality services throughout the team's racing events.
Dr Mohd Azhari said the collaboration was aimed to encourage more Malaysians to active measures in looking after their health for the long term.
"A simple yearly physical examination can help patients prevent disease in the first place.
"We are proud to work with Forca-Amskin in helping them to achieve their goals of being among the best in the world.
"With their support in educating the public about the importance of health screenings, I hope to see more Malaysians make that first step of going for a check-up," he said.
Also present at the signing ceremony was Forca-Amskin chief executive officer Mohd Faiz Sharifuddin.
