PADANG TERAP: The Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) will carry out an assessment on eligible party candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) to ensure a landslide victory for the party.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said so far every member is eligible to become a candidate but the party will be conducting background checks to see if the members are suitable to represent the party.
"We will see who among them can gain voters' support from the 36 state seats and 15 parliamentary seats in Kedah.
"Everybody has a chance to become a candidate but we will rate them on their capability to ensure a win for the party," he told reporters after a working visit at Volvariella mushroom farm in Kampung Padang Nyiur on Sunday.
Ahmad Bashah, who is also state BN and Umno Committee chairman, said his visit was also to monitor the party's preparation for GE14.
So far he is satisfied with preparation made by the party's 31 District Polling Centres (PDM) in Padang Terap.
Bashah added that each PDM has also identified areas considered as black, grey and white for the party.
"So far I have visited four constituencies to oversee BN preparation for GE14, namely Sungai Petani, Merbok, Padang Serai and Padang Terap, and will go to the remaining 11 constituencies before the GE14," he said.
He said GE14 will be different from previous election as such the party is doing a rating system to make sure the party has a strong line-up.
On the Volvariella mushroom farming project, Ahmad Bashah said the project can help rubber tapper and palm oil estate worker to earn extra income.
