KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today led Umno delegates in taking a pledge to remain loyal to the party by agreeing to the choice of candidates for the next general election, as the party gears up to secure a two-third majority in Parliament.
In delivering his winding up speech at the party's annual general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today, Zahid, who is carrying out the duty of the party's deputy president, said the party is ready to face the 14th General Election (GE14).
"We will abide by the decision of the president and the party leadership on the choice of candidates for the next general election.
"We will work hard in a united team to secure a two-third majority in the next general election.
"We will make sure that BN (Barisan Nasional) retains power and we will never surrender Putrajaya to the Opposition," Zahid said as he led the pledge.
Zahid reminded party leaders and delegates that GE14 will be the toughest battle yet for BN and Umno. Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak had described GE14 as the ‘father of all general elections’.
