KUANTAN: Pas Pahang is not at all surprised by the chaos churning within Pakatan Harapan after it named Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister candidate for Pakatan Harapan (PH).
State Pas commissioner Rosli Abdul Jabar said the aim’s of the opposition coalition are inconsistent and paints a picture of them lacking capable leaders for the country's top position.
"Pas Pahang sees this development among them (Pakatan Harapan) as though they do not have an aim.
For example, choosing of Dr Mahathir is a bizarre decision because Tun (Dr Mahathir) is an individual that betrayed Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"It is up to them who they wish to pick. That is their decision and we (Pas Pahang) do not see the decision as jeopardising our position.
"Our stand had always been consistent, which is that Pas Pahang is ready to face-off with anyone (candidate) in the upcoming general elections, regardless from where they are from. If from Barisan Nasional (BN) we will go head-to-head with it, if from the opposition coalition we will also put up a fight," he said today.
On the Pahang Pas’ grassroots reaction to PH’s decision to nominate Dr Mahathir as the Prime Minister candidate, Rosli said most state party members see the development as being hilarious.
He said that the opposition pact should have chosen a better candidate from among themselves rather than going with a candidate (Dr Mahathir) who had retired from politics.
Last Sunday, Pakatan Harapan at its convention, Dr Mahathir as candidate for prime minister in the event they receive the people's mandate in GE14.
The opposition had also picked PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as candidate for the deputy prime minister's post.
