I FREQUENT a convenience personal care outlet at least once a month. Every time I go there, the salesgirl will encourage me to get a membership card for RM18.
She said the card will enable me to enjoy discounts of up to 15 per cent. But I’ve never taken up the offer.
Last week, I went to the outlet again. Again the salesgirl suggested that I buy the card.
Where is the logic in this? I don’t understand how the membership card system works. Does it not mean that prices have been marked up, so that customers can get a discount but they actually end up paying extra?
Many have cried foul over the six per cent Goods and Services Tax. Is that why outlets are marking up the prices of goods?
If that is not the case, then please enlighten us on how the membership discount system works.
Many stores and outlets are offering such membership discount cards.
Are they genuine? Do they save costs as claimed?
Some blame the government for imposing GST, but private companies are charging more than 15 per cent on their products.
Many of these businesses are taking advantage by increasing their prices and shifting the blame on the government and the GST.
