KUALA LUMPUR: The BA of Malaysia (BAM) received an additional boost in their preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games when Celcom Axiata Berhad extended their sponsorship by 15 months, with a deal worth RM10 million.
The extension is from June 4, 2019 to Aug 31, 2020.
In March 2016, Celcom Axiata became the main sponsors for BAM when they inked a three-year deal worth RM24 million.
Celcom Axiata Berhad chairman Tan Sri Jamaluddin Ibrahim said the extension is an effort from his side to help the Malaysian squad do well at the 2020 Games.
"In our commitment to develop and nurture future talents, it is indeed our pleasure to be the main sponsors for BAM. Last year, we signed a deal worth RM24 million and it is an honour for us to be able to extend that sponsorship.
"Together with BAM, it gives us great joy to witness our heroes doing well under our banner," said Jamaluddin after the deal-extension signing ceremony at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Bukit Kiara here.
Present to witness the event was BAM patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Meanwhile, BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria expressed his gratitude towards Celcom Axiata for trusting the national body with the sponsorship extension.
"Celcom Axiata is now part of our badminton family, and we hope to strengthen this relationship by improving not just our elite squad, but grassroots-level (shuttlers) as well.
"We (BAM) also hope that through this sponsorship, Malaysia will realise its dream to win the elusive gold medal at the 2020 Games," he added.
