KUALA LUMPUR: According to Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general manager Michelle Chai, the names proposed by men's doubles head coach Cheah Soon Kit, to replace the outgoing Jeremy Gan will first have to be tabled at the Coaching and Training (C&T) committee meeting.
Interviews to hire a new coach for the men's doubles department will only take place once the committee has deliberated on the matter.
"We will first screen through the names suggested by Soon Kit. Once we've narrowed down the list, it will be tabled at the C&T meeting before any other decision is made," said Michelle on Wednesday.
Michelle added that the C&T meeting can still go on, even if chairman Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria is not around.
"For now he (Norza) is still in town, but if he goes overseas, we can still go on with the meeting and have him join us online.
"We haven't had any interviews since Jeremy decided to leave BAM. We will screen the candidate list and allow C&T to decide on it."
Norza, who is also BAM president when contacted, reiterated that Soon Kit has been given full mandate to decide on a replacement.
On Tuesday, Soon Kit, admitted that three names have been shortlisted, and he has handed them over to BAM.
Though BAM have chosen to stay mum on the matter, it is learnt that Lee Wan Wan, Chew Choon Eng and Chan Chong Ming have been under their radar for some time.
The other men's doubles coach assisting Soon Kit currently is Rosman Razak.
