KUALA LUMPUR: Independent shuttler Zulfadli Zulkiffli will fight on to earn more recognition in the hope of representing Malaysia in bigger tournaments after learning that he was not in national singles coach Misbun Sidek’s plans for next month’s Asian Team Championship in Alor Star.

The 25-year-old, who played in the 2016 Thomas Cup qualifiers, said he is fired up to make an impression in ‘Open’ tournaments and also impress the national coaches with good results.

“I do not give up easily. I always do my best whenever I am selected to represent Malaysia in team competitions. It is probably not my luck this time,” said Zulfadli.

The former world junior champion disclosed that he did not receive an invitation from the BA of Malaysia (BAM) to play in the Asian Team Championship.

“So please do not say that I am arrogant and self-centred, and also a person who likes giving excuses.

“I have always accepted BAM’s invitations to join their players for centralised training. I hope the concerned parties will not jump to conclusions and also make statements based on facts.

“I do not want negatives to affect me as I want to focus on my career.”

World No 2 Lee Chong Wei, Lee Zii Jia, Soong Joo Ven and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin are expected to be named as the men’s singles shuttlers for the Asian Team Championship.
