KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Soong Joo Ven attributed his inclusion for the Asian Team Championship to consistency and hard work.

Joo Ven, the World No 66, is one of the four men’s singles shuttlers selected for the tournament, which doubles up as a Thomas Cup qualifier, in Alor Star on Feb 6-11. It is his second outing in the tournament after Hyderabad two years ago.

“I am happy to be part of the team again. I will try my best to contribute points if given a chance to play in the tournament,” said the 22-year-old, who won the team silver medal at last year’s KL Sea Games.

Others in the men’s team are Lee Chong Wei, Lee Zii Jia, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

Joo Ven will begin his season in the qualifying round of the Malaysia Masters on Jan 16-21.

“It will be challenging in the Malaysia Masters as my opening qualifying match is against Japan’s World No 48 Kento Momota,” added Joo Ven.
