IPOH: ‘‘The players were not playing as how they usually play, and we lost because of our opponents effective playing strategy,’’ said Selangor coach P. Maniam, as he summarised last night’s (Sunday) 3-0 loss to Perak in a Malaysia Super League match at the TLDM Stadium in Lumut.
“We were playing well below par in the first half.
“Only after the break did we get our rhythm and began creating chances but sadly our finishing let us down,” he lamented.
According to Maniam, Selangor players could not cope with Perak’s effective long balls which caused havoc for the Red Giants defense.
Maniam added that Perak kept play very tight in the middle of the park and this made it difficult for Selangor to get back into the match, especially after conceded three goals that condemned them to defeat.
“This is a painful loss that is hard to swallow but we just have to accept what has happened and move on.
“We just have to forget about this match immediately so that it does not disrupt the players’ focus in preparing for the next match,” he said.
Selangor will face Terengganu in an FA Cup third round match which takes place at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium this Friday.
