MELAKA: Melaka United are almost there in having the best formula in terms of the team’s formation after beating PKNP FC 2-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium here last night (Sunday).
Coach Eduardo Almeida said that their open style of play, intelligent forays forward and focus during matching especially when defending a lead has been instrumental to their recent success.
According to Almeida, understanding the opposition team’s style of play and the ability to match or break down moves has allowed them to take maximum points from matches.
“I am satisfied with this win, which puts up in fourth place in the league for now. Before the match, we knew that PKNP FC are no pushovers and we were ready for them, however what makes me prouder is how well my players performed in notching our third win of the season.
“Whatever it is, we are fine tuning the team in our quest to form a formidable squad that can overcome any opponents be it playing at home or away, and we are also hoping to improve on our style of play, said the 39-year-old Portuguese coach who celebrates his 40th birthday on March 22 (Thursday).
Almeida added that the victory was also down to teamwork, as everyone played their part, including the substitutes that came on.
Two goals scored in each half by 28-year-old Belarusian forward Yahor Zubovich allowed Melaka to overcome PKNP, despite their opponents efforts to try to get back into the match to avoid going home empty handed.
