KUALA LUMPUR: Nur Durriyah Damian recovered the nation’s pride in the women’s team golf event at the Mines Resort and Golf Club when she picked up the bronze medal after beating Philippines’ Lois Kaye Go 2 and 1 in the match play format today.
Durriyah, paired with Ashley Lau, missed a couple of putts as the three-hour rain delay hampered the competition’s original tee-off time at 7.30am.
In her fourth appearance at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games, Durriyah then squared the tally in the last hole which pushed her and Lois into sudden-death.
Durriyah secured the bronze when she kept her composure as Lois’ blew her chances when she wasn’t able to read the greens.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s women’s team retained their gold medal after defeating Indonesia 2 and 0 in a repeat of the 2015 Sea Games.
In the men’s team event, Singapore avenged their 2015 defeat to Thailand when they beat the Thais 2½ and 1½ for the gold medal while Indonesia defends their bronze for a second-consecutive edition of the Sea Games.
