JUSTIN Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Gavin Green, all born in 1993, may have different goals for the remainder of the season, but the three have similar aims in the CIMB Classic golf tournament, which starts today.
PGA Tour player of the year Thomas, rookie of the season Schauffele and current Asian Tour order of merit leader Green, are on the same flight for the opening two days of the tournament at TPC Kuala Lumpur.
World No 4 Thomas wants to win the CIMB Classic for the third time in a row.
“It’s another week, another tournament, it’s definitely different but it’s a feeling I’m familiar with.
“But I’m just excited to go out and try to play the best I can, whether it’s defending again or finishing top-10 or top-30,” said Thomas.
Schauffele is also looking forward to make an impression in KL.
“I have never played with him (Thomas) before and it’s always nice to play with top players in the world that are doing well,” said Schauffele, who has won two PGA Tour titles.
Malaysia’s Green has experienced playing alongside Thomas in collegiate tournaments in the United States.
“It is going to be great to play with Thomas and Schauffele in the same flight. It is going to be fun to see how they play,” said Green.
Green, who won the Taiwan Masters, is eyeing becoming the first Asian to win the CIMB Classic.
The CIMB Classic is a 72-hole stroke play event, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour, Asian Tour and Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM).
