KUALA LUMPUR: The six days the national futsal team will spend on tour in Qatar will play an important role in their preparation for the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Championships at the end of the month.

Coach Chiew Chun Yong said the Oct 12-17 tour will be used to test out a number of players and strategies ahead of the AFF Championships.

“We will play the Qatar national team twice on Oct 13 and 15 and will also face a number of local clubs there on Oct 16," said Chun Yong.

“We will test out a number of new strategies which place emphasis on pace and will certainly test our fitness levels.

“The main focus is to ensure that all the players understand the tactics we use and forge a strong understanding among their teammates.”

At 60 (921 points), Qatar are ranked slightly higher than Malaysia. The national team are currently 62nd on 907 points.
