KUALA LUMPUR: Numerous parties have questioned their inclusion but the Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysian (STAM) are adamant that they deserve to remain in the Podium Programme.

STAM president Datuk Seri Ahmad Ismail said the sport warranted its inclusion by virtue of their double gold feat at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017) in August.

Ahmad said the national body is now focused on preparing the team to win gold at the Indonesia Asian Games next year.

"Sepaktakraw has achieved the Key Performance Indicator mark set by the National Sports Institute (NSI) which was to win two gold at KL2017," said Ahmad yesterday.

"I hope people will not make this an issue (being retained in Podium Programme) as we are focused on winning gold at the Asian Games next year.

The two gold won by Malaysia at KL2017 were not acknowledged by many as both categories — chinlone and inter regu — did not involve giants Thailand or Myanmar.
