KUALA LUMPUR: The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) have confirmed that three more Malaysian weightlifters have been tested positive for a banned substance.

Based on the report on IWF’s website, the three athletes are Muhammad Hakimie Haikal Nordin, Muhamad Zaidi Mohd Nordin and Ronny Jesos.

Urine tests were conducted by IWF on March 28 and the three tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid stanozolol.

Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) acting secretary Abu Hanapah Ismail said: “MWF were informed by IWF on May 11.

“The trio have requested for their B samples to be tested. The samples will tested in Cologne, Germany.”

“The results will be made known between 10 and 14 days. All three are now provisionally suspended,” said Hanapah.

If found guilty, the three athletes, aged between 18 and 21, who are in MWF’s junior programme, could be suspended for four years if found guilty.

Last month, Fazrul Azrie Mohdad was stripped of his Commonwealth Games bronze medal for testing positive for the same banned substance.

“A hearing will be held if their B results are also positive,” he added.

As this is the fourth doping case recorded this year, MWF could also face action from IWF.
